Touchpad Test guide
This test uses the browser Pointer Events API. It counts what your operating system passes to an application, so it verifies real behaviour rather than reading a hardware model number.
Start the test and trace the pointer slowly around the entire surface, watching for stalls, jumps and areas where the cursor stops responding. Then click left and right several times each, double-click, and scroll up and down with two fingers, checking that every counter rises exactly as often as you acted. Finish with quick diagonal sweeps โ a pad that tracks smoothly when slow can still drop samples at speed.
The page receives Pointer Events, which the operating system produces after it has already applied acceleration, palm rejection and gesture handling. A jump on screen can therefore come from the driver rather than the hardware. What the test proves is what actually reaches an application โ which is what you will live with day to day.
Move slowly along every edge, into all four corners and diagonally across the middle. Dead zones almost always sit at the edges, where the sensor grid ends and a worn or lifted pad loses contact first. A cursor that stalls and then jumps has missed a run of samples.
Each intentional click should increment its counter exactly once. Two increments from one press is the touchpad equivalent of key chatter and usually means a worn switch or a loose click plate. No increment at one specific spot points at a failing mechanism under that corner.
Two-finger scrolling must respond in both directions without reversing on its own, and the max-touch-points reading tells you how many simultaneous contacts the browser is given. A pad that reports one point cannot do two-finger gestures reliably, whatever the specification claims.

The normal context menu is suppressed only inside the tracking surface so the page can count the secondary click. Right-click works normally elsewhere.
