This test measures latency, jitter and throughput against this site using controlled, same-origin test data. It is a quick browser estimate designed for comparing connections under matching conditions.

How to get a result you can trust

Run the test once to warm the connection, then twice more and take the middle result — the first run often reads low while the connection is still ramping up. Watch the download and upload traces as they fill: a line that climbs and then holds steady is healthy, while one that spikes and collapses points at congestion or a weak Wi-Fi signal. Finally compare Wi-Fi against Ethernet on the same laptop, in the same minute, before blaming the connection.

What the four numbers mean

Download affects browsing, streaming and app installs. Upload affects video calls, cloud backups and sending large files, and is usually far lower on consumer connections. Ping is how long one round trip takes; jitter is how much that round trip varies. A fast line with high jitter still produces stuttering calls.

Why this differs from Speedtest.net

Results read lower than a dedicated speed-test service for real reasons: the data is served from this site rather than a nearby optimised node, the run is short, and the browser adds its own overhead. Treat the number as a way to compare your own connections, not as an ISP certification.

Getting a clean comparison

Close downloads and streaming first, sit near the router, and run the test more than once — a single sample on a shared connection tells you very little. Then repeat over Ethernet. If Wi-Fi is much slower than the cable, the problem is the radio path, not the internet plan.

Data use and what is stored

A completed run transfers up to roughly 29 MB down and 6 MB up. On a metered mobile connection that is a real cost, so the test never starts on its own. The upload endpoint counts the bytes and discards them immediately; it accepts no files and stores nothing.

How much data does the speed test use?

A completed run uses up to about 29 MB for download and 6 MB for upload. The exact transferred amount can be lower if the test is cancelled.

Are the uploaded test bytes stored?

No. The upload endpoint reads and discards generated test bytes immediately. It does not accept files, recordings or personal content.

Why can results differ from Speedtest.net?

Server distance, routing, Wi-Fi conditions, test duration, browser overhead and traffic at the moment all affect results. This is a quick same-origin estimate, not an ISP certification measurement.
