Freeze a frame for inspection

EMPTY
Take a snapshot to inspect sharpness and dead areas
PrivacyThe image exists only as a temporary in-memory URL and is revoked when discarded or refreshed.

Used-laptop check

Freeze a frame and inspect the whole image.

Use even lighting, then move slightly to see whether exposure and focus recover smoothly.

Signal 1

Sharpness

Text and facial detail should not remain permanently smeared in good light.

Signal 2

Exposure

The image should adapt when lighting changes without staying fully dark or blown out.

Signal 3

Frame stability

Motion should remain continuous without long freezes or repeated black frames.

Signal 4

Lens and sensor

Look for haze, blocked corners, fixed bright spots or unusual color patches.

Camera Test guide

Read the result like a technician

This test uses the browser MediaDevices API to show the live camera stream and read back what the video track actually reports. It verifies that the camera works and lets you inspect the image; it cannot grade optical quality.

How to test a used laptop webcam

Start the camera in good, even light and check that the picture is sharp, correctly exposed and free of a colour cast. Move slightly and watch how quickly focus and exposure recover โ€” a webcam that takes seconds to settle will do the same in every meeting. Then take a snapshot and inspect the frozen frame properly: corners, edges and any fixed spots. If the laptop has more than one camera, switch and repeat, because only one of them may be faulty.

Reported resolution is the real one

The resolution and frame rate shown come from the live video track, not from the marketing specification. Browser constraints are requests rather than guarantees, so lighting, drivers, other running apps and the supported capture modes can all change what you actually get.

Lighting changes the numbers

Low light forces the sensor to drop its frame rate to gather more light, so 30 fps can fall to 15 fps in a dim room. Test in good, even lighting first, then dim the room deliberately to see whether exposure recovers smoothly or the image collapses into noise.

What the snapshot reveals

Freeze a frame and look closely at the corners and the edges. Haze across the whole image usually means a dirty or delaminated lens cover; a fixed bright or dark spot that stays in the same place between snapshots is a sensor defect and will never move.

Mirroring and privacy

The preview is mirrored by default because a self-view feels natural that way, and the snapshot follows the preview setting. Turn mirroring off before checking anything with text in it. The stream goes straight from the browser to the video element, and a snapshot is a temporary in-memory URL revoked on discard or refresh.

Questions

Camera Test FAQ

Clear answers about permissions, privacy and what a browser can reliably test.

Does AvadaBD upload my camera feed?

No. The video element receives the camera stream directly from your browser. A snapshot becomes a temporary in-memory URL that is revoked on discard or refresh.

Why is the preview mirrored?

Front-facing camera previews usually feel natural when mirrored. You can turn mirroring off; the snapshot follows the preview setting.

What should I inspect in a used laptop webcam?

Check focus, exposure changes, color, flicker, frame stability, dark or blocked areas and whether the selected camera reaches an acceptable resolution.

Why is the camera resolution lower than advertised?

Browser constraints are requests, not guarantees. Lighting, camera drivers, other apps and supported capture modes can change the actual settings reported by the video track.
